Rickski (b.1981, Detroit, MI) is a self-taught, observational painter whose work combines figurative illustration and abstraction, using various painting mediums and traditional methods. His roots in painting/art making started many years ago as a young graffiti writer, and slowly evolved into a disciplined studio practice—first exploring oil painting on canvas, to more recently working with watercolor and gouache. His ideas are developed from street photography of memorials, old architecture, forgotten places, lost items, and strange moments colliding by chance. These references serve as a starting point to explore time, relationships, memories, and modern symbolism through the act of painting. Rick has exhibited at many local Detroit galleries and maintains a consistent daily art practice, in and outside of the studio.
